13th July 2011 - Moingup Springs Campground - Stirling Range National Park

Located 76k North of Albany along Chester Pass Road, Moingup Springs Campground is reasonably large area that is shaded and slightly sloping. Gas BBQ’s, tables, septic toilets, tank water are all available close to the ranger station. During busy times, mainly long weekends and the wildflower season, the day picnic area is opened to caravans. Eleven kilometers towards Borden is a turnoff to Bluff Knoll Lookout and day picnic area which is definitely worth a look, where there is a large parking area, toilets and walking tracks.

5th July 2011 - Congelin Campground – Narrogin District

About 23k North of Williams via Williams / York Road is the turn off to Congelin Campground. The last bit of road is unsealed but free of corrugations and leads to two campgrounds, one for group camping and the other suitable for caravans. The sites are individual, level, shaded and open with tables and circle a shelter shed with a gas BBQ. There are camp fire places at each site and firewood is supplied. The toilets are clean, long drop, with toilet brushes and buckets. There are several walking tracks and one follows an old railway line with information signs and good photo opportunities at various locations along the track.

For information: The road past the entrance to the camping area, continues to the Narrogin / Wandering road and then to Narrogin

25th June 2011 - Corrogin District

On the way from Wikipin and just 4k from Corrigin we came across the site of a “Dog Cemetery” that is well worth a look. The site has a small parking area on the edge of the road. Opposite the cemetery, is a track leading to wild flowers that may be worth a look in the springtime

The “Dog Cemetery” is not listed in Camps Australia Wide No. 5

Corrogin is a neat town that has won many tidy town awards and has a reasonably large shopping centre. Just 20k south east of Corrigin, is Gorge Rock Pool rest area that is level, has plenty of shade, tank water and the short walk to the pool is recommended. This site suitable for an overnight stay as it is well away from the highway

23rd June 2011 – Wickepin – A Fortunate Place

This thriving metropolis is located about 40k North East of Narrogin and was the home of Albert Facey, the author of “A Fortunate Life”. The town is small and friendly with an easy going business centre as can be seen by the sign posted in the local news agency. The caravan park offers level, shady, cheap sites and has clean amenities, free washing machine, electric BBQ and a shelter shed. With a town that has a population of just 300, not much happens and is a good spot to recoup after all the stresses of driving and sightseeing.

16th June 2011 - Stockton Lake Recreation Area

Located just 8k East of Collie along Piavanini Road, Stockton Lake Recreation Area is in two sections. One is a large level open and shaded area that has a long drop toilet, and bins. This area has a boat ramp and easy access to the water that, unfortunately, is a bit acidic. The other section has some individual sites that are on the edge of the lake. This section is also level and shaded and has a septic toilet and bins. Popular at weekends with boats and waterskiing this is a good place to spend some time if in the area.

12th June 2011 - Honeymoon Pool - 28k West of Collie

One of two camping areas in Wellington National Park, Honeymoon Pool, unfortunately, is not really suitable for caravans or big rigs although we managed to find a couple of sites suitable and big enough to accommodate our motorhome. The access road is gravel with some corrugated areas and there are no sharp corners. The pool and surrounding picnic / camping areas are easily accessible for swimming and canoeing and has gas BBQ’s, septic toilets, a shelter shed with tables and bins. The camping sites are mostly for car based camping but we suggest that you take the time and trouble to have a look at this beautiful location. For caravans and big rigs, suitable camping sites are available at Potters Gorge about 10k from the pool.
